One of my favorite travel sites is kayak.com. The site allows me to search several online travel agencies at once. It makes my online travel shopping much easier than going from site and site and constantly having to jump windows to comparison shop. In particular, their App is absolutely fabulous and is great for booking on the go.
So the next time you are looking for that hotel night, check out Kayak.
My name is Wayne W. Smith and this blog contains my musings related to higher education, tourism and anything else that comes to mind. I invite you to scroll down and laugh where appropriate, cry when necessary but always remember to consider the source.

You Tubing Tuesday - Bald Edition
Yesterday, I got all my hair shaved off. My wife said she really didn't like it. Personally, I think it looks good. So today's YouTubing Tuesday is about being bald and beautiful...
Perhaps, I should play her...
See, it even looks good on women. Right Snead?
As a great bald man once said, "Here's looking at you kid" (just don't listen to me 'sing')...

Media Monday - Syria
Normally, I do not like to get political on my blog but this weekend the UN Security Council's motion related to Syria was vetoed by Russia and China. This motion was supported by most Western Nations along with the Arab League.
Many Syrian children are bring wounded in the struggle within that nation. Several human rights groups are maintaining that the Syrian forces are even torturing children as young as 13. It is estimated that over 5000 Syrians have been killed so far during this conflict including up to 200 on Saturday in the worse case of one-day violence since the uprising began.
While I am usually not a supporter of outsides influencing the affairs of other nations and I agree with China that asking a sitting leader to step-down is unsettling however, this plan according to AlJazeera...
"does not explicitly call on Assad to step down or mention an arms embargo or sanctions, though it "fully supports" an Arab League plan to facilitate a democratic transition."
In this case, it is not only the Western Nations who are supporting the resolution but the Arab League itself. The Arab League contends that the balance of power is so one-sided in this conflict that something must be done for the sake of the people. If the Arab League is making these types of statements about one of its member nations, you know the situation on the ground is tragic.
I only hope officials from China and Russia are working hard behind the scenes with the Syrian government to create a peaceful resolution to the current conflict.
May we all know peace in our time.

Saturday Soliloquy - Weekend Commandments
Weekend Commandments
- No meeting shall occur after 3:00 PM on Friday - let people finish off their week properly.
- Friday night shall contain a social element - dinner at the table, drinks with friends - it must include a real conversation with others.
- Saturday cleaning should be limited to the AM only - Shopping may occur in the PM as long as it has a 'fun' component added into it.
- One should always call a loved one or a good friend you have not hear from in awhile on Saturday.
- Saturday night is for the young or young at heart.
- Sunday AM is personal time - whether it be for church purposes or personal mental well-being - that morning is for personal reflection.
- You must do at least two Sunday PM chores before viewing sports on TV or other leisure activities - It adds to the feeling of relaxation.

Friday Fragments - v12
Once again, thanks to Mrs. 4444's for hosting FF.
- I had a conference two weekends ago, then last weekend and most of this week I have been qualmish - my grading pile is now officially two inches think.
- Is there such thing as a grading fairy that will come and catch me up?
- Yesterday, I wrote about how Customs officials used someones tweets to deny them entry into the USA. The more I think about it, the more I believe that this generation has it much tougher than previous ones. There are very few secrets in this social media world.
- In 20 years, we will have the first president who had a Facebook page in College. Are we going to drag up pictures from a frat party they attended as a freshman and judge their character on it?
- This is an email I received today...
Do you have a writing project underway? Do you find it hard to find time to think and write during the semester? Have you lost momentum on a manuscript project? If you had a couple of solid days, could you get an article out for review? Are you poised to begin a new writing project if only you could find the time?
If so, consider applying for one of ten spots in the pilot Spring Break Writer’s Retreat. For three days over spring break—Monday, March 5 through Wednesday, March 7—we will provide up to ten faculty with a private, quiet space in Addlestone Library to write. We’ll provide some accountability, care and feeding, and a supportive collegial environment so that you can focus on your writing. In return, you agree to write and not grade, check email or Facebook, or leave the retreat for other meetings.
- Scary part is, I thought this was a really cool idea and am seriously thinking about applying for it as frighteningly enough, it sounds heavenly - Then again, I get my official tenure letter on March 1st - hummm...I may want to party (or cry) my spring break away...:-)
