Friday Fragments - Liam's Birthday Weekend

Mommy's Idea

Thanks to Mrs. 4444's for hosting Friday Fragments...

  • Tomorrow is Liam's sixth birthday - hard to believe he is already a kindergarten-er.
    • On a related note: His birthday will feature construction theme.  It should be interesting party with his school friends and some longer term playmates coming.
  • Heather is attending a blogger conference today with some Disney folks.  She is excited because she is meeting several other bloggers.  Really, it looks like a gigantic Mommies Night Out Plus as I notice I was not invited.
    • On a related note: Hope the content isn't Mickey Mouse - not that I am jealous or anything.

  • It has been great having my parents here this week.  We have got a lot done around the house including a smack load of painting.
    • On a related note: Thanks to them for coming down for a work-cation.
  • Erik is a bundle of energy.  I get tired just watching him. I am however currently fighting to keep him awake.  He wants to have a dinner nap and I actually want him to sleep tonight.  We will see who wins this war of wills.
    • He is almost two and thinks he is 20.
  • Took this picture the other day; is this trying to tell me something?

    • On a related note: I would try to find religion but I didn't know it was lost.
On a serious note, this week I had to discuss with Robyn a story she read in which many people were saying that God and religion have no place in schools.  While I am not personally religious, I respect people that are and that they have the freedom to make that choice.   While some will distort religion for their own personal gains; the basic tenants of traditional religions are good and should not be readily discarded.  I am all for reminders that we have to treat each other with love and respect.  If it takes religion to get someone to believe and live that way - I am all for it.

Pondering All New Things...

Photobucket

Thanks to Brenda for hosting this fabulous hop.  This week theme is:

New

'New' is a double sided concept.  It is a very good thing to develop new ideas, to learn new concepts, or to gain new insights.  I would also argue that meeting new people and developing new relationships is a healthy way to live.  The problem with 'new' though is when we get consumed with it.  We get so fixated on having new things we forget about how to live and manage what we already have.  Often times, many can get so determined to get new things, we become consumed by 'new' and we demonstrate the worst of human traits as a result of it.  I have learned very hard lessons related to 'new'.  One should always remember, things are replaceable, people are not.  The pursuit of things over the developing and fostering relationships is a fallacy.   It leads not to happiness but rather to despair.  The desire for the newest, shiniest, most fabulous thing leads to a trip down the garden path - one will never be happy with what they have because the newest thing is around the corner. Where one show focus on 'new' is to find new happiness in life through love, learning and growth.  That is when new really shines.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

Thanks to Joyce from this side of the Pond for hosting the Wednesday Hodgepodge. Here are the questions...

1. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL? The NFL is back in action along with all the college teams. Are you a fan? Who do you root for? If you're not a fan what do you do while the rest of America watches Saturday, Sunday, Monday night, and now Thursday night games?
I am not into football, it is too slow of a sport for me. Too long in between plays. Before you all get mad at me, look at the graphic below from a Wall Street Journal study.  Let me quote from the study for you,

" the average amount of time the ball is in play on the field during an NFL game is about 11 minutes.  In other words, if you tally up everything that happens between the time the ball is snapped and the play is whistled dead by the officials, there's barely enough time to prepare a hard-boiled egg.."

60 Minutes are not just a TV show but also the amount of commercials played during an NFL game.

2. What's something I'll always find in your closet?

I will say the boogie man...

3. Share one of your earliest memories.

There was a light, some screaming and someone smacked my bottom... That was nothing compared to what came next.  I just don't want to talk about that 'little cut' on my...

4. What circus act best describes your week so far?

Trapeze...trying to balance everything needing to be done.

5. What's a food you disliked as a child but you love now?

Broccoli and cauliflower...

6. Describe your summer in three words.

Being really lazy.

7. Where were you on September 11, 2001? Will you do anything special to mark the day this year?

I was off sick and was watching CNN as it happened.  Truly amazing.  I did not do anything special to mark the day though.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
