Six Word Saturday

Thanks to Cate for hosting Six Word Saturday.  She challenges us to describe our week in exactly six words.  My six words:

Modifying my mindset is not easy...

This week my sabbatical started.  Normally, I am gearing up for the first week of class, getting to know my students and setting up the term.  As I am on sabbatical this term, I have to modify to a totally different mindset.  As my duties for this term are purely research based, it has totally changed my whole approach to work.

In a typical term, I am usually heavily engaged with others whether it be students, other faculty or our industry partners.  This term, I am basically working alone.  This nice part of this isolation is that it is affording me the time to work on a project I have wanted to do for over a decade.  It is re-energizing my creative and research approach.  It is challenging me to be introspective and to really focus.  Typically, I am teaching three courses, sitting on three or four committees as well as working on three or so different research projects.   A very different existence.  Changing my mindset to meet this new reality has been an interesting process to say the least.

  4. Sounds fine, Wooday. 'Enjoy it because it will not last.'

Really time will fly. I took one a few years before I retired to investigate making an on-line version of one of my Business Law classes that I taught. In the end the 'system' got to me and I decided to not live with it but instead to report that my class would be better in-class only.
    ..
The system back then used mostly Power Point presentations on-line. I wanted to do an interactive version.

  5. Adjustment's not something I do easily, but it sounds like you'll still be fully occupied (and that's without the family, though of course they're a distraction too when you're working from home).
    Good luck!

  7. It's great that you finally have the opportunity to work on your research project. It may help to go out and work in different environments besides the home. Good luck with modifying your mindset and having a productive sabbatical! Thanks for visiting and commenting on my site. ~Xiomara
