Tourism & Technology Thursday - Google's Tourist Eye Trip Planner

One of the new Google Apps is called TouristEye.  The purpose of TouristEye is to give users an opportunity to create a travel itinerary that they can download to their phone or to show their friends.  I used an example of Charleston, S.C.

TouristEye is linked up to Facebook & Twitter (and surprisingly not Google Plus)...so that they can follow you while you on your journey or not depending on the level of privacy you request.

To begin you enter the city you want to visit and the dates of visit or the number of days you would like to spend there.

You then set your privacy level but this App enables you to share your itinerary with friends and to download it to your phone or other mobile device.

You can still tell the App is in its infancy in that many of the locations do not yet have photos and reviews. It does however, have all of the contact information for each site as well as links to their website.

Overall, the App works well but it takes some getting used to.  It was for me, not necessarily intuitive to use though it was pretty easy to learn as long you you spend some time playing with it.  The time you take to properly engage the program should be worth it.

  1. This sounds pretty interesting and I'll have to check it out. We will be planning a trip for late summer or early fall, so this will be a great chance to see if we can learn anything about the place(s) we will be visiting. Thanks!

BTW - Congrats on getting your tenure!
