My name is Wayne W. Smith and this blog contains my musings related to higher education, tourism and anything else that comes to mind. I invite you to scroll down and laugh where appropriate, cry when necessary but always remember to consider the source.

An Independent Pondering?
Thanks to Brenda for hosting Pondering... This week's topic is:
Independence
As a parent, we want our children to grow up into functional, productive and happy adults yet we do not want them to lose their 'need' for us.
As a professional, I want the autonomy to make critical decisions and be left alone to get my work completed. On the other hand, I want a support structure for assistance on difficult projects.
As a citizen, I want to be free to make my own choices but I want the government to be able to provide access to things such as education, roads and laws.
As an individual, I want time out for myself. To think and to gather my thoughts yet I need to feel the love and security of others. While I think I am an independent person, the reality is that I am an interdependent person who sometimes needs space but often needs others.
